UV DTF: what it is, and what it is not
UV DTF puts a printed transfer onto objects a flatbed cannot reach — curved bottles, awkward shapes, assembled products. It is also the process most misrepresented online, usually by being confused with garment DTF, which is a different thing entirely.
Mechanism
A cold transfer, not a heat press
UV ink is printed onto an A film, a B film is laminated over it, and the sandwich is pressed onto the object by hand. The bond comes from adhesive and pressure — no heat press. That is why it works on glass and ceramic, which a heat process would risk, and on assembled goods that cannot go under a platen.
It works on glass, ceramics, coated metal, acrylic, PVC, painted wood and leather, and its real advantage is curved surfaces. It fails on porous, heavily textured, flexible, greasy or low-energy material — the same surface-energy limit that governs every ink. Why some surfaces reject ink.
The confusion
UV DTF is not garment DTF
They share three letters and almost nothing else. Garment DTF prints onto film, dusts it with thermoplastic polyurethane powder, cures it and heat-presses it into fabric. UV DTF uses UV ink, no powder, no heat, and does not go on textiles at all.
If your product is a t-shirt, UV DTF is the wrong answer and so is every machine on this site — we will say so rather than sell you one. The four processes compared.
The machine
UV DTF on the F4060
The specification sheet lists a UV DTF laminating device as an optional configuration on this machine, alongside a rotary device for cylinder printing.
- Print area
- 420 × 600 mm
- Object height
- 1–180 mm
- Heads
- Epson i3200 / i1600 U1
- Colours
- CMYK + White + Varnish
- Speed
- CMYK 2 m²/h · CMYK+W 1.5 m²/h
- Options
- Rotary device for cylinder printing · UV DTF laminating device
The white channel is what makes transfers work on dark and clear objects — without it the artwork takes the colour of whatever is underneath. The same machine prints objects directly up to 180 mm thick, so the transfer route is an addition to the flatbed rather than a replacement for it.
Claims
What we are not going to repeat
One vendor advertises two to five years outdoor durability and full waterproofing. Another, selling the same process, publishes no outdoor claim at all, specifies a 24 to 72 hour cure window and recommends hand washing. The spread between two sellers describing one product is the story.
So we publish no durability figure, no dishwasher rating and no per-unit cost. Test it on your own product, in the conditions it will actually live in, and judge adhesion the next morning rather than on the spot — final adhesion takes about 24 hours, and an immediate test fails jobs that would have passed.

Send us the object
Post us the product you want to decorate, or bring it to a demo. A transfer on your actual item answers more than any specification does.
Machines are sold in configurations, so the specification decides the price. Tell us the material and the volume and we will quote the exact build.
